Senior Research Analyst – Future Energy Metals

Location: London, Canary Wharf

The Role: S&P Global Market Intelligence, a premier sector-focused news and information provider, is looking for a senior research analyst to join our Metals & Mining Research group. In this dynamic role you will be responsible for the battery raw materials commodities, and using data, models and insights to publish research on end-use demand, produce price forecasts and provide external sector research to our clients.

The Location: Canary Wharf, London, United Kingdom

The Team: The Metals and Mining Research team at S&P Global Market Intelligence provides in-depth expert insight into the metals and mining sector. From industry leading studies of worldwide exploration, development, production and costs, to commodity price forecasting and analysis of the real drivers of markets – this group delivers reliable, unbiased research and analysis drawn directly from extensive industry contacts, global news and other information sources. Our clients include a cross section of the broader Metals, Minerals and Mining sector from mining companies, traders, vendors, consultants, regulators/governments and all those that operate within the financial and commodities markets such as Investment Banks, Investment Managers, Hedge Funds, Brokers, etc. We are a multinational organization that has built a robust franchise on data collection and standardization, layering on proprietary news and research, employing analysts, economists, engineers and geologists that are well regarded within the sector. In the open space of the future energy metals, you will be responsible for driving the next generation of analysis that will fill the information void.

What’s in it for you: In this role you will be part of a highly motivated and growing global group of analysts further expanding our footprint in the commodity space. Situated within the wider team, you will raise your presence as an authority on the battery materials supply chain and act as the representative of the views of S&P Global Market Intelligence. You will get exposure to product development across teams, work with experienced analysts on all aspects of the value chain, as well as gain experience on a range of other traded commodities. With the autonomy and responsibility afforded by the position, this will be a great platform for you to continue to grow and broaden your value professionally as the go to contact among international media and our client base.

Responsibilities: Including but not limited to:

  • Modelling end-sector supply/demand for the battery supply chain, particularly lithium  products and cobalt
  • Researching, analyzing and publishing commentary on battery technology and its impact on the supply/demand balance.
  • Regular publishing and production of price forecasts
  • Collaboration with our mine cost analysts on analysis of the battery raw materials supply chain using our industry leading database
  • Participation in business development activities and external representation as required, such as at conferences or client roadshows
  • Communication on and defense of your work to clients
  • Some business travel as required

What We’re Looking For: “I’m looking for a candidate established in their field, confident in their ability to take ownership of this space for the team and keep close to the market. Qualifications:

  • Established experience as an analyst in the battery commodity space, whether covering technology or supply/demand and price forecasting
  • Degree educated, for example including mining finance, engineering, chemical disciplines, economics or business
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills
  • Solid numeric analytical and problem solving capabilities

The following would be advantageous but not required:

  • Experience with VBA and/or SQL programming language
  • Experience in covering either the cobalt or molybdenum markets
