Media Relations Manager, UK

Funding Circle’s Media Relations Manager is an integral member of the UK communications team, reporting to the UK Head of Communications. You will be responsible for building and driving a full media relations programme that enables Funding Circle to continue to grow awareness and understanding amongst key audiences in our largest market.

He/She will be a smart, strategic and passionate individual, and will play a central role in building our brand and reputation with journalists, positioning Funding Circle as the first choice for small businesses and investors.

As Media Relations Manager you will…

• Develop, implement and drive a strategic media relations plan for the UK market, resulting in a regular drum beat of news in key media outlets
• Spot opportunities for the business to increase awareness and understanding with national, trade and regional journalists, and use your creativity to generate tactical ideas that share our vision and message with the media
• Manage the press office including outreach, briefings, sell ins, tactical launches, reactive enquiries, executive thought leadership support and events planning
• Set messaging for core audiences that increases visibility and advances our position as the leading small business lending platform in the market
• Manage a small team (agency and in-house) to ensure delivery of day-to-day media relations
• Be responsible for ensuring all Funding Circle UK spokespeople are communicating in a consistent way, including running training sessions for speakers and providing speaker notes
• Work with the rest of the UK communications team to ensure media relations activity is aligned to corporate affairs and customer communications, as well as to internal employees
• Have the opportunity to work on global communications projects, supporting wider strategic objectives and aims

You’ve been there and done this…

• The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ corporate communications experience either in-house or agency work, ideally in high-growth, fast-paced environment
• Expertise in developing proactive and reactive corporate communications campaigns that educate and influence journalists
• Experience of working with tier 1 business, technology and financial media and understanding of their requirements
• Ability to work with senior stakeholders across the business to identify innovative and distinctive story ideas and place them in key media outlets
• Clear ability to translate often complex financial materials into meaningful narratives
• Excellent written, spoken, and presentation skills (English)
• Some management experience and evidence of results
• Issues management and crisis communications experience is ideal
• An understanding of the financial services landscape and experience of working in the sector is ideal
