To bring together partners from the health and social sectors in order to create a pathway for those furthest away from the labour market back into employment. My role included managing operational staff and budgetary responsibilities. My main achievement was bringing together a range of partners, at a strategic level, to develop and the East End Employment Pathway. This resulted in the creation of a seamless pathway to allow people with a range of employability barriers to access the employment market. The partners included organisations from both the public and the private sectors.

Initially my main role was the care and management off offenders. During my time in the Scottish Prison Service I was part of the Incident Command Team. This involved being deployed as a negotiator during times of serious prison disturbances. As an offender programmes officer I was responsible for the development and delivery of a range of offending behaviour programmes in a classroom setting, designed to address offending behaviour. prior to leaving the prison service I had supervisory responsibilities. This included the management and deployment of operational staff and the management of residential areas with up to 60 prisoners. I was also part of the ‘Fit for the Future’ project team which identified £8 million, year on year, efficiency savings within the Scottish Prison Service. During my prison service career I gained extensive knowledge and skills in relationship building, inter personal skills, negotiation and operational management.

As a general seaman I was part of a crew who were responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and safety of sea going vessels. My seven years in the Merchant Navy instilled in me a positive work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team and under my own initiative.
