Since 2013, Milestone Infrastructure have been delivering a Term Maintenance Contract (TMC) with Peterborough City Council (PCC) to carry out highways’ maintenance and improvement schemes on their network. The contract, which continues to 2028, includes the delivery of individual highway and structural projects of varying values
We are currently looking to recruit a Lead Operative / Ganger to work on our Peterborough Highway Services contract.

As a Lead Operative / Ganger you will be part of our Highways Maintenance Team who are responsible for Delivery of the Term Maintenance Highways contract for Peterborough Highway Services

As the Lead Operative / Ganger your duties & responsibilities will be:

Lead a minimum four men to carry out work safely in accordance with design drawings and specification
Take ownership and leadership of gang including daily material ordering and planning
Leading a operations team undertaking various labouring duties including excavation works, laying and levelling of kerbs, slabs and bitumen macadam, drainage and gully installations
Carry out Daily Safety briefings
Ensuring that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of own and other persons and to comply with all local and statutory Health & Safety procedures
Operating small plant and equipment used in highway maintenance with guidance from Site Supervisor
Installing traffic management under instruction in accordance with method statements with guidance from Site Supervisor
Participating in an out of hours emergency call out system covering the Peterborough Highway Services network
Essential Skills & Experience

A clean UK driving license
Highways work experience
Willingness to work outside of normal hours and weekends as required (paid as overtime) in all weathers
Good customer care skills (i.e. dealing with the public)
Demonstration of capability to gain HGV Class C licence during probationary period – emergency standby and winter maintenance are a contractual part of the service we deliver
LGV/HGV Class C – training will be given
NRSWA
CSCS
Skilled and knowledgeable in Patching, kerbing. ironworks, drainage and all other aspects of Highway maintenance works

BECOME AN OWNER-DRIVER AND WORK FOR YOURSELF! AVERAGE EARNINGS: £70,000 – £80,000 PER YEAR. AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE UK.

CONTRACT HAULAGE WORK AVAILABLE ALL YEAR ROUND FOR OWNER-DRIVERS AND FLEET OWNERS WITH RIGID OR ARTICULATED VEHICLES.

We are looking for owner-drivers, fleet owners, and HGV drivers (Class 1 or 2) based anywhere in the UK and interested in taking the next step up and becoming owner-operators and transport company owners. To get started and apply for an Operator’s Licence, you need to have £8,000 which is a requirement of the UK and EU transport regulations (you won’t spend it).
