Opportunity
An opening has arisen in London for an Oil Market Strategist, reporting to the Head of Oil Research in New York. This is a client facing role and requires some regional travel, as well as frequent interaction with the sales and trading teams in London.
Key responsibilities
Day-to-day processing of data from key agencies or market data on oil and oil products markets
Work collaboratively with other members of the oil research team to prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly flagship publications and other ad hoc research reports
You will help prepare client presentations on oil markets
You will be required to build new models where necessary and maintain the existing models
You should be capable of thinking out-of-the-box in suggesting research projects and trade strategies, and be independent in your work on near- to medium-term ideas.
The candidate should be prepared to work more flexible hours around the times of publication Requirements
Demonstrable relevant work experience in the oil market or industry, particularly in Europe or the US
Ideally should have worked in crunching oil balances at some energy research organization, another investment bank or an investment fund
Experience in analysis of oil demand would be beneficial
Applicants will preferably have a graduate degree or higher in Engineering, Geology, Economics or Mathematics
Excellent writing (in English) and communication skills are essential
Ability to tailor high quality comments/communications to specific audiences (external clients, traders, salespeople)
Willingness to a reasonable amount of travel.This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
