I have started working for Conquip as a transport manager, reporting to the existing operations manager. This role sees me being entirely office based, routing the 5, 3.5T vans and 8 HGV’s in accordance with demand placed by the sales force, along with taking care of the maintenance scheduling for the entire commercial/ company car fleet of approx. 50 vehicles. As a company we have recently achieved ‘FORS’ Gold, and an international operator’s license and as such the legal/compliance undertakings of running such an O license have become my full responsibility. I have also taken the opportunity to pass my class 2 HGV license in the first quarter of 2017 and plan on taking the class 1 test before the end of the year.

I was offered a job with Event Support Southern (ESS) working as their Fitter as a result of the cover I was providing while at R&W. I have been working for the most part on the company’s fleet of 18, 3.5t vans (Transit, Iveco Daily & Citroen Relay) providing maintenance and repair while also providing emergency repair/call out for the fleet of 7 HGV’s. I have put in place a full maintenance/inspection schedule for the entire fleet which between myself and the HGV maintenance provider is strictly adhered to.
While in my role as Fitter, I took the opportunity to sit the International Freight CPC exams, allowing me to take over the Transport Managers role. As a Transport Manager, forward planning and organizational skills are hugely important when keeping an Operator’s license compliant.

Upon returning to work from paternity leave I accepted a job with R&W as a Traffic Management Operative.
This role saw me being responsible for installing, maintaining and removal of temporary traffic lights and the associated warning signs for any kind of road/ground works where Operatives would be working in a live carriageway. I also filled in as a Vehicle Fitter while one of the full time Fitters was on long term sick leave. This was the aspect of the job I was particularly fond of coming from a family of mechanics. While in this role I have gained the M1/M2 & M5 qualifications, which allow me to install and set up a multi-phase site.

For this role I was working as part of a team of 4. Our main objectives were to deliver world-class customer service through our impartial, expert knowledge of the products we were selling. This involved very high levels of research and working with the customer to discover which package of mobile, broadband or fixed line phone/internet would suit their needs and budget best. For this role I was working to a much higher measurable target than I had previously experienced and I feel it gave me much better focus to meeting/exceeding KPI’s.

I was responsible for the running of a busy retail/credit providing chain store and I undertook extensive training in precious metals and watch valuation. I was responsible for ensuring that all credit control procedures were in place and maintained through the store and by the staff under my control. For this role I expanded on my knowledge of staff hiring and training, managing sales targets and profit/loss accounts as well as being a central contact point between other Store Managers and Senior Management.

This position saw me responsible for the printing of sensitive government documents to a strict dead line. Working alongside HM Forces and the government I was trained to produce not only materials for the MOD but also mainstream graphic displays. I was in control of all ‘off-line’ finishing as well as order taking and customer interfacing. The role was heavily IT related and taught me many invaluable software skills and knowledge. This job gave me my meticulous attention to detail and helped me to grow in my competency of visualizing and implementing new procedures and ideas.
