• On arrival to the depo, is all safety checking the van is in good, clean working order. You have to treat the van as if its your own, and you are responsibly for any damage too it and pay for any excess fee out of your own pocket, I am only in control of the van from start to finish of my shift and it is left at the depo over night, so checking it ever day from top to bottom is essential.
• Checking every delivery that has been loading on to the van by the warehouse staff, mainly seeing how many of each one there is or more, where you have to go, then doing all your own route planning .. You don’t know what is on your van endless you wright them all down.
• After the van is loaded, of you go to deliver as you may have some time limit deliveries, they can involve 9am’s, 10:30am’s or 12:00pm’s .. They all have to be at the right place before there time .. All deliveries have to be scanned, then signed for,
• Throughout the day you may be required to do some collections which come straight through your own “DIAD” ie scanner gun ..
• When all deliveries and collections are done, you then continue on to your schedule pick ups which happen on a daily basses ..
• On all collections you have to put thought your “DIAD” buy scanning the label, if a label is not available you have to wright out a “WAYBILL” with all the shippers details ect. Collecting the right paper work for each one and any invoice if being delivered out the EU..
• Some times there may be money collections on deliveries or collections .. Can be anything from small the large amounts ..The right paper work needs to be filled out correctly then put into the depo’s safe box at the end of the day.
• Responsibility for high value .. This involves collect high ie. new iPhones, Apple or Del products ect.. You have to collect them from a member off team before leaving debrief, once they are scanned out into your hands you have full responsibility for that product, you have to make sure it’s is given to only the address person and no other. If your are unsuccessful in delivery you
have to take back to holds at the end of your shift at the depo, any lost of the product you have to pay full price out of your own money for replacement ..
• Towards the final end of the day, if another team member from another location is struggling in a different location close to you, you go and help out as much as you can for the team work effort as you get the same in return ..
• The job is a self motivated roll with a lot of hard work, each day is different and you never know what to expect each morning .. Deliveries can be between 50-100+ drops + odd collections each day.

Agency – Driver Hire
On and of with work but mainly worked for
APC – Action Express
The only way I can describe this job is that I literally got thrown into the deep end .. Meaning got given now training .. Really on my first day I went into the office, handed in ID-driving license .. Got given some sheets and got told to follow the the delivery address’s and package number which matched .. Got given van keys, sent to the warehouse to load the van then of I went ..
This may seem a little crazy and I didn’t expect that to happen one bit when I got told I was going for an induction .. I was a little worried ain’t going to lie, but I prove to myself even tho I got thrown in like that, I had the ability to do the job and get on with it .. And I excepted how else will you learn if stuff like that don’t happen .. After time main duties where
• Get all delivery sheets and rout plan
• There was team work involved on arrival of deliveries ie. picking and sorting all parcel of all shapes and sizes to the correct loading spot for each driver
• Loading the van yourself in an order of last drop to first then get them out to the right address
• On total there could be anything from 50-80 deliveries per run
• Start time was from 6am until before 7pm
• Had to be clean, polite and presentable when approaching each customer/address as also while out on the run you may get a phone call saying you need to do a collection in the area you are in ..
