Jade Williams
HGV Driver class 1
GXO Logistics – Swindon
October 2022 to Present
Beginning October 2022, I entered into a government Class 1 HGV apprenticeship. The beginning 6 months of the programme I was introduced into numerous roles of warehousing & Logistics. I was put into placements within the company where I would spend weeks in each area, first shadowing then committing to the tasks once trained. This included: warehouse picking and loading on MHE, HR administration, Transport office clerical positions (dispatch, debrief, driver scheduling and record keeping etc), workshops, online HGV health and safety courses and content learning + driver shadowing/mating amongst other things.
Between March to May I underwent my cpc and driver theory test, then gained my HGV license in Newport Class 1. I passed the apprenticeship and gained my certification in January 2023.
Since May, I have passed my assessments and relevant training with Iceland and have been driving independently doing multi drop deliveries around the South West. I have driven different models of Trucks, as well as a variety of trailer sizes. I have experience in fixed axle trailers and those with rear steer- 8, 10, 12 and 13 metre trailers. I have experience unloading using a pump truck and the manoeuvring of cages. I operate tail lifts daily both underslung and column and roll up door and barn doors. I also have experience with REFRIGERATED loads- trailer compartments and setting trailer temperatures and load securing. I have experience with BOX and CURTAIN siders. I have unloaded and loaded trailers without aid and can precisely rearrange my load to collect waste from stores to return to the depot.
I have experienced many challenging stores while driving for iceland. I am gaining experience doing both good and blind side reversing with hazards any time of the day during busy town centres. I have also done depot deliveries and am confident reversing onto loading bays. I currentlu hold a valid CPC card and am competent in the knowledge of tachograph rules and legislation.

December 2021 to August 2022
For 8 months I was working within the B&Q Distribution Centre as an agency picker. I was firstly llop trained which enabled me to use the MHE equipment to navigate around the warehouse to collect products. I then later gained training on a PPT, which I used to work alongside other colleagues in the goods in sector of the warehouse. I have also been manual and electric bander trained. I am experienced with stacking items safely and correctly, both in cages and pallet form. I am able to quickly and efficiently meet pick rate, while still providing secure stock management and ensuring the stock has been appropriately handled to prevent damages. I have experience of using handheld AMT’s and have good mathematical skills.
