Personal Profile
I am a fully qualified HGV class 1 and class 2 driver, with a tachograph card and a CPC license with 5 years remaining on the card. Please see below for a full list of my driving credentials. The issue I seem to have is I am deaf. This is not an issue for me, as I have managed my disability for 37 years and I can communicate just fine, we just must use text. I have to work harder than most as you can understand. It is difficult for people to see past my disability, so I have included some FAQs with my cover letter. I hope to discuss this role with you more soon.
What Will I Bring to The Role?
Ø 19 Years UK car license with no points and completely clean.
Ø 8 Years experience in driving 3.5 Tonne Long Wheelbase Vans completing multi-drops.
Ø HGV license for Class 1 – Class 2 and for 7.5 Tonne vehicles
Ø Tachograph card
Ø CPC Card with 5 years remaining until renewal.
Employment History
Phillip Morant School, Cleaner – November 2020 – February 2023
The pandemic led me to complete my HGV training in full. While completing my training, I had a role as a cleaner. The work was tough due to the times, but very rewarding. My duties included:
Ø Cleaning down several classrooms. This meant ensuring:
o Tables and chairs students use were fully cleaned down and the cleaning logged.
o Doors and handles were cleaned regularly throughout the day.
o Use equipment to hoover the classroom and make it a safe learning environment.
Earls Colne Parish Council, Community Landscaping – February 2015 – August 2020
This role only ended due to my plan of obtaining my HGV licenses and relevant qualifications. The work and the people were wonderful, and I completed many community projects, including:
Ø Collecting and emptying refuse bins in and around the Parish and disposing of them correctly and in line with recycling. I would also report any ‘fly-tipping’ incidents direct to the council.
Ø Use equipment such as lawn mowers to cut grass and a strimmer to ensure the Parish Council properties look respectful and promoted a good image of the area.
Ø Cleaning public toilets. I took pride in this, as I was conscious that any visitors to the area may use the toilets.
Royal Mail, Multi-Drop Delivery Driver (Van based) – January 2007 – December 2014
This role is what first got me interested in logistics and led to me deciding that I should try and achieve my HGV license. My role here was varied but I have included some daily duties below:
Ø Vehicle inspection on first arrival. This meant liaising with the office and then completing checks on the assigned vehicle for that day. I studied Automotive Engineering at college, so I knew what to look for.
Ø Check my vehicles manifest for the day and if necessary, help load any items that have not yet been loaded and check them on the manifest as I went.
Ø Use my knowledge of Essex roads and best practise to deliver goods efficiently and safely to a variety of customers’ homes, ensuring my parking, driving and customer service was respectful and safe.
Education
Phillip Morant School, GCSE Studies – September 1997 – 2002
While here, I spent five years refining my communication skills and studying toward the following GCSEs:
Maths | Science | English | PE | ICT | RE |
College, Automotive Engineering & Repairs – 2002 – 2004
My college course went directly in line with things I loved. This has helped me with vehicles checks and maintenance.
Ø Automotive Engineering, Repairs and Welding Level 2
Hobbies & Interests
I take some of the skills I have learned professionally over the years and apply them at home. I enjoy up-cycling various pieces of furniture and completing DIY projects around the home.
