PERSONAL STATEMENT
Joining the army when I was 17 years old, I completed my Phase 1 training at AFC Harrogate and then proceeded with my Phase 2 training for my Defence Medic course at Whittington Barracks, before progressing to join the Royal Logistics Corps as a Driver.
I am a hard worker, willing to take on any task that is given to me and have a “can do” attitude, aiming to complete all tasks in a timely manner. I am an excellent time keeper and well-presented individual.
Being in the British Army taught me many great things, including how to be disciplined and dedicated to your role and job choice, whilst always being punctual, considerate and respectful to others.
I am now looking to develop a career outside of the Army by transferring and applying all my learnings and experience in order to offer dedication and commitment to my next employer.
I have all my required license for explosive goods, hazardous waste and many others. I have all required driving qualifications and my Digital Tachograph Card.
Employment History
Temporary Agency Work
April 2018 – current
Following my departure from the British Army, and whilst studying ahead of completing the required Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) part 2 and 4 (these were not required in the British Army), I joined a local recruitment agency who were able to find me temporary work:
Armstrong World Industries – working a continental shift pattern for 4 months now, I have been employed as a temporary manufacturing operative in the manufacture of ceiling tiles, loading various paint products on to the production line. It is important to ensure that the line is fed at all times to prevent production from stopping, and to not impact the quality of the finished product.
Elanders – due to working continental shifts at Armstrong, on the days I wasn’t working, I often provide relief cover when required, mainly on night shift, as a printing press operator, loading material on to the press and packing the product once complete.
HM Armed Forces – Merville Barracks, Colchester
September 2016 – March 2018
The Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) in Colchester is where I joined 13 Air Assault Support Regiment as a Driver, undertaking a variety of driving duties. I joined a support squadron of the airborne troop that were assisting the 3rd Battalion Paratrooper Regiment in operations, exercises and training. I attempted P Company (Pegasus Company) which is an intense fitness course to prove your strength and ability.
During my time in this regiment I completed my Rigger Marsheller course which required me to strap, chain and attach any form of load or vehicle to a helicopter for transporting.
Whilst with the RLC I completed the following Soldier/Driver related training courses:
• Jackal/Coyote course (1st response in close quarter combat, mounted with a 50caliber machine gun or a Grenade machine gun and a General-purpose machine gun or a Heavy machine gun in the commander’s seat)
• Quad bike off road course (1st response in close quarter combat)
• Pinzgauer course (high mobility all-terrain vehicle 4wd and 6wd, German vehicle)
• Land rover off road (high and low gear ratio)
Soldier Training Courses:
• GPMG (general purpose machine gun)
• HMG (heavy machine gun)
• 50 Cal (50 caliber machine gun)
• Weapons handling test (SA80 assault rifle)
• 9mm Pistol training
In 2017, I visited Kenya for 2 months extra training where I completed training in various vehicles:
• DROPS (Demountable offloading Pickup System)
• Quad bikes
• 15 Tonne Military Support Vehicle
• Jackal (performing various exercise including being contacted from various squadrons and reacting to effective enemy fire)
• Driving fuel, ammunition and weaponry from one place to another, usually over 300-mile round trips
It was difficult adapting to a different way of life, different driving law and driving manors, and poorly maintained roads.
HM Armed Forces – Leconfield Barracks, North Yorkshire
March 2016 to August 2016
The Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) provides full training for a variety of vehicles. I initially passed my Category C and then C and E. I then continued to pass the following driver related training courses:
• Support Vehicle
• 6 Tonne vehicle
• 9 Tonne vehicle
• 15 Tonne vehicle
• ADR – Accord Dangerous Routler (hazardous goods)
• Drops left and hand drive – Demountable rack offload pickup system
• BCCS – Basic close combat skills whilst driving
HM Armed Forces – Whittington Barracks, Litchfield
March 2015 – February 2016
The Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) is responsible for maintaining the health of servicemen and women. The Corps is represented wherever British Soldiers are deployed, providing medical support to operations, exercises and adventure training expeditions all over the world. I successfully passed the A+P module for Human, anatomy and physiology, however, I decided I would like to take on additional training and further my career by completing my driving training, thus I requested a transfer.
HM Armed Forces – Army Foundation College, Harrogate
September 2014 to February 2015
The Army Foundation College (AFC) is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and trains young people to become Junior Soldiers for the various Corps and Regiments of the Army.
I initially carried out a 23-week Phase 1 training course which is designed to give entrants the basic military skills to undertake duties required of a solider and fully prepare them for further stages of training. Basic skills learned during this training included:
• Fieldcraft
• Skills at arms
• Fitness training
• Qualities of a soldier
• Military knowledge
• Battlefield casualty drills
• Individual health
NPF Paintballing – Sutton Coldfield
November 2013 to September 2014
NPF Paintballing is part of a large outdoor activity centre in the West Midlands. Having attended paintballing most weekends for several years, I was invited to apply for the position as a Marshal working weekends, helping to deliver an excellent experience for our customers. Health and Safety was always important, and I was also involved with safety briefings at the beginning of the day, ensuring people had the correct clothing and safety equipment, designing and organizing various games and challenges during the day, all with the aim of ensuring the customer left having had a great time, hopefully with the intention to return in the future.
This role allowed me to further develop my people and communication skills, whilst also helping me understand the importance of operating in a safe manner.
Bolehall Fish Bar – Tamworth
September 2012 to September 2014
Whilst still at school, I took on a part time job at the local fish bar, doing several different tasks from preparing potatoes to serving customers. Although not the most glamorous role for a teenager to undertake, it taught me from a very early age that no matter what task you were given, you should complete it to the best of your abilities and that sometimes you must do things that are not really what you want to do. I grew in confidence as I had to deal with members of the public which helped with my communication skills.
