Operations Supervisor (Depots)

Reporting to: Operations Manager (Depots)

Location: Hythe (Primary Depot)/Ringwood/Aldermaston/Chilbolton

Purpose of the Position. To promote and drive Operational Excellence across the WP Group activities supporting the Depot based fuel distribution operations. This includes 24/7 support to the Fawley Refinery mobile bowser contract. Managing and delivering high performance teams with a strong focus on Regulatory Compliance and Safety. As one of three field based operational managers reporting directly to the Head of Operations, this key position will manage and lead a range of fuel distribution capabilities across four depots locations and a authorised fleet of over 50 vehicles.

As the Transport Manager appointed to deliver DVSA standards, you will be leading a diverse team of mainly depot-based drivers across a wide operational footprint between Ringwood and Aldermaston. Effective management of these people’s resources will require a high level of engagement and communication at all locations.

Supporting the effective management of a cohort of up to 35+ Class I and Class II ADR drivers. You will have leadership responsibility across the Safety, wellbeing and productivity of your dispersed team. This includes Supervisors and other field operational support employees. You will collaborate closely with the other Operations Managers and will be a Champion of SHEQ, “Always Safe” and O Licence Undertakings.

A Transport Manager CPC and O Licence holder, the Operations Manager holds shared responsibility with the Head of Operations for ensuring a regulatory compliant and safe operation. This includes the conduct of regular internal audits and oversight of Preventative Maintenance Programs, plus the Quality of product.

Familiar with the ULEZ, London Lorry Control Scheme and FORS will be beneficial.

The adoption of clear Productivity and shared Operational Excellence goals. Applying a flare for data and analysis of trends to assist with data driver decision making and the reductions of Lost Productivity and under performance of resources. Make intelligent Freight Budget decisions in delivering Operational Excellence priorities.

Key Responsibilities. Reporting to the Operations Manager (Depots), you are responsible for supporting the delivery of Operational Excellence across People, Infrastructure, Fleet and Productivity.

Support the Operations Manager with all O Licence Undertakings.
Field support to delivering the Daily Plan, e.g., liaison with FC and Drivers for Delivery ETAs, Failed and Under Deliveries.
Input and coordinate of Driver KPI Matrix updates, e.g., preload, additional delivery, QMS, Tacho Infringement, Gate checks.
Promote and demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviours to reinforce a positive and healthy workplace culture. Encourage an engaged and high performance workforce.
Provide flexible on-call Logistic and Equipment Support services across all Depot and Fleet resources, including out of hours.
Deliver driver inductions, terminal and continuous professional development training throughout the year.
Review, update and validate SOPs, RAs and RAMS.
Promote and progress the “Always Safe” culture. This includes frequent Gate Checks and local Audits of Training, practices and procedures.
Act as an additional first responder to incidents, accidents and spills that require supplementary resources, e.g., spill recovery, vehicle movement and loss prevention actions.
Support to Depot Housekeeping and Compliance through monitoring, reporting and completing Depot Preventative Maintenance.
Support all reporting to the SHEQ Coordinator on measures to maintain Safe, Compliant and Effective Depot. Including delivering Corrective Actions and addressing Non Conformities.
Routine Out of Hours and Morning Calls roster support to the Operations function and Drivers.
Deputise for the Operations Manager during absences.
Knowledge / Skills and Attributes

Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT) or prepared to complete.
Experience of supervising drivers, a vehicle fleet and wet depot stock.
Experience with in vehicle technologies, e.g., Touchstar.
Recent HGV and ADR experience – Desirable.
Computer literate.
Experience of organising and planning vehicles, stocks and drivers to meet an operational daily plan.
Full driving license (HGV 2 Desirable)
Fuel Industry knowledge would be highly advantageous but not a necessity.
Positive attitude, pro-active, strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure.
Solid time management, organisational skills and administrative capability.
Self-driven with strong Communication skills. Comfortable around groups and positive skills in influencing others to follow.
FORS Practitioner – Highly Desirable or to be obtained within 6 months of commencement
IOSH – Desirable

Schedule:
Monday to Friday
General core hours of 9 hrs per day between 0500 – 1730hrs to align with Ops Manager.
Be prepared to support the 24/7 operation through participation in the OOH and Morning Calls roster with other Ops Managers.
