Highways Operative

On behalf of a major Highways Maintenance contractor Vector Recruitment Solutions are recruiting for experienced Highways Operatives or HGV Drivers looking to get into the Highways industry.

Excellent oportunities for training, including HGV Class 2 and Traffic Management Qualifications and will also look to support those that want to move into leadership positions.

All successful candidates will be drug and alcohol tested prior to starting.

This is a straight permanent contract with our client.

The Job

To undertake duties associated with the maintenance of public highways, including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils works and traffic management. The successful candidate will also need to be available to undertake winter and emergency maintenance out of hours activities on a standby rota basis throughout the year.

Requirements

Driving Licence
New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation (not required if HGV licence held)
Previous experience working within the Highways industry. (not required if HGV licence held)
Good communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy
Ability to undertake a high level of manual work and work outdoors in all weathers
Able to demonstrate good customer care skills (i.e. dealing with the public)
Desirable

Hold HGV Class 2 (Class C) driving license
CSCS Card
Qualifications in Traffic Management, all levels are relevant from T1/T2, 12AB, 12B LTMO, 12AB Foreman and IPV Drivers.
Plant tickets.
Experience tarmaccing and curb laying.
Hours of work

Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30 am – 4.15pm (40 hours per week)

Once you have obtained your HGV licence you will also be required to go on the on-call rota for emergency call outs and winter maintenance (gritting) duties.

24 days (plus bank holidays) holiday per year

Pay

£20,446 – £29,600 pa basic with opportunity to increase pay through overtime and winter maintenance.
