The Group has a wide range of tax payment, deduction and reporting obligations both for its own account but also for its customers and colleagues. Group Tax manages these obligations on behalf of the Group, ensuring the tax consequences of all transactions are understood and that the Group is in full compliance with all of its statutory obligations. And that our tax costs are managed within our risk appetite and in accordance with the Banking Code of Practice in respect of taxation.
This role supports the implementation of the ring-fenced bank and therefore offers a fixed term contract until December 2019.
In this role you would provide a dedicated VAT advisory, risk assurance and planning service to support senior business management and maximise Group earnings. You’ll work with the VAT risk, assurance and compliance team as well as other business and finance teams in developing the processes whereby the Group fulfills its statutory compliance obligations. These processes handle tax risk in relation to VAT and IPT liabilities.
TYPICALLY, YOU’D BE INVOLVED IN THE FOLLOWING:
– You’ll act as a senior source of professional expertise and input into the development of the Finance and Tax Policy
– You can lead, develop and motivate colleagues to build a high performing team to deliver business objectives
– You’ll be seen as an SME to provide insightful information, mentorship and advise on the implications of benchmark practice on new policies and practice
CAN YOU ANSWER ‘YES’ TO THE FOLLOWING?
– Do you have detailed knowledge of UK law and practice is respect of VAT and deep understanding of the workings of HMRC?
– Can you demonstrate a good knowledge of EC law and its effects on its operation within EC Member States?
– Do you offer the maturity and credibility to present the Group’s case and negotiate its position with HMT, HMRC, trade bodies and external advisors?
