Senior Market and Methodology Development Specialist (Oil & Shipping)

Grade: 11A

Location: London, Canary Wharf

The Role: Platts is seeking a proactive and dedicated senior specialist to help drive development of European and African energy price assessments. Based in London, the position will work in a team responsible for assessment development globally and work closely with the teams responsible for day-to-day price discovery and market intelligence gathering activities across a range of disciplines.
 

A key element of the role will be the ability to build on the strong reputation that Platts has established in this area of the business, in a challenging environment. The position will be required to work closely with regional peers in Asia and the US.

The position will have excellent time management skills and experience of commodities markets and ideally price discovery within a commodities setting. The position will also involve serving externally as a subject matter expert on oil and shipping pricing.

Accountabilities
 

• Advise and partner with senior colleagues in the energy teams on price assessment methodology development
• Drive the development of energy pricing methodology in Europe and Africa, working with the regional management teams for reporting in those markets.
• Research proposed ideas and bring concrete thoughts and analysis to the discussion to ensure broadest possible discussion and well-informed decision-making
• Communicate and share ideas with methodology development specialists from other sectors when possible to ensure alignment where possible, as well as share knowledge and ideas.
• Regularly represent Platts at industry events and functions including public speaking/expert panel engagements
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with a broad base of key industry sources in energy

Skills

• Minimum BA degree with approximately three years’ experience of commodities markets or financial/business journalism
• Some knowledge of the commodities industry preferred
• Strong analytic skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills that implement good listening, a clear writing style and strong verbal skills. The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally
• Displays strong numeracy including a solid understanding of economics principles and of risk management principles
• Strong critical thinking skills
