All of our drivers are fully employed and supplied with a regularly maintained tracked vehicle, uniform; including safety shoes, jacket, Gillet, trousers and shirts, a smart phone with mapping and tracking, and all necessary equipment required to complete work to the best of your ability.
Direct experience is preferred but not essential, however, any driving and manual handling experience from the course of your previous employment will help your application. External training is offered after a trial period with nationally recognised qualifications at the end.
Our drivers are expected to be ‘on call’ one evening in five if there are hours left to work, as well as one Saturday in five and one Sunday in five (not on the same weekend.) A Same Day driver will work on average between 37.5 and 45 hours a week. Our drivers are also expected to cover work one bank holiday per year.
You spend driving hours on your own, so you need to enjoy your own company, but at the same time be able to deal comfortably with customers’ requirements and problems, and drivers’ assistants when you are with them on jobs. If you have a current police check from the disclosure barring service, this is advantageous, as it will be required before you commence.
This is a long-distance driving position. There are small runs, but the majority of our work is long distance which means you MUST be able to work flexible hours. This includes some very early starts, sometimes very late finishes, frequent manual handling at customer locations, and a requirement to stay out overnight with little to no notice.
You should not apply for this vacancy if you cannot cope with the flexibility required or the requirement to undertake manual handling.
If you enjoy long distance driving, you will enjoy this position with the variety it offers. As we specialise in courier work, an HGV/LGV licence is not required however, an ADR licence (to handle hazardous goods) would be an advantage and attracts a higher pay grade. We provide a well-maintained fleet of Citroen Berlingos and Relays that you will need to be able to park safely near your home. You will be paid an allowance to keep your vehicle clean to a high standard. You will have no travelling time or expense getting to/from work as you work from your home base.
An average gross of around £17,846.00 per annum can be achieved, including seasonal variations. The more efficient, flexible and reliable you are, the more you can earn. Pay starts at £9.05 per hour and can progress up to £10.15 per hour. We prefer five years driving experience, under 6 points on your licence and you must have no convictions for Drink-Driving in the last five years You must be able to supply references from three professional people that have known you for three years, (this can include an ex-employer), in order to pass a full Security Check, these names need to be provided at your interview. A good attitude to customer relations is vital. This is a challenging and rewarding position with genuine job security. Can you meet the challenge?
