We now require an experienced mechanic either HGV or Light Commercial Vehicle trained.

A minimum of 5 years experience is preferred as well as an MOT Tester Certificate.

You will be required to carry out vehicle and plant servicing and safety inspections. To report or repair defects found on vehicles and plant during routine maintenance and from Defect Report forms.

Prepare and present vehicles for Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) MOT and LGV plating tests and to repair/recover vehicles and plant that are broken down on the roadside or at depots.

To road test vehicles prior to repair. Clean vehicles and make presentable after repair.

Essential:

A good general education is required with a trade qualification equivalent to a full City and Guilds Mechanics Certificate or BTec equivalent.

Desirable:

MOT Tester Certificate.

A Heavy Goods Vehicle driving licence.

Problem Solving:

Have a wide range of mechanical skills in welding, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.

To be computer literate and have experience in using computerised diagnostic systems.

To trace and rectify faults on complex electronic control systems such as “Can Bus” and “FMS”.

To solve a problem by designing and fabricating components to enable repairs to take place.

Working Conditions:

Working in a fully equipped workshop on diverse and complex vehicles and plant.

Working on vehicles and plant that have a high concentration of residual waste and a foul odour often in confined spaces.

Off site working in the environment of the Waste Transfer Stations to effect repairs.

The post holder will be exposed to heavy lifting and a large amount of lifting and handling operations. The use of mechanical equipment such as power tools is also a key feature of this position.

flexible approach to their 37 hours a week and whilst the minimum working day will be 7.5 hours, the post holder may be asked to work any 5 days between 6am and 6pm Monday to Saturday for which no enhanced overtime rate will be paid, unless the post holder, with authorisation from their line manager exceeds 37 hours per week. However, the standard finishing times will be 17:00, Monday to Friday

The post holder may, as part of a rota, be available to attend breakdowns on a call out basis for which payment will be made.
