Highway Maintenance Winter Gritter Driver

Milestone Infrastructure, part of M Group Services, are looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers, with CPC, to work on the Oxfordshire Highways Maintenance contract as Winter Maintenance drivers. The drivers will be appointed on a temporary contract to cover the Winter Maintenance season from Friday 27th October 2023 until Friday 5th April 2024. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero-hour contract basis.

Your duties & responsibilities will be:

To drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season, being allocated to a rota within the Oxfordshire area.
To be on standby alternate weeks i.e. one week on standby followed by one week off throughout the winter maintenance season.
To undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service.
We are looking for:

A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential.
A valid Winter Maintenance qualification or experience. If, however, training is required, training for the City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for October 2023 and the above-mentioned temporary contract will be extended to cover this
The ability to get to Oxfordshire Highways Depot, Banbury Road, Deddington, OX15 0TS within 1 hours’ notice
Shifts and Pay Rates:

The Winter Maintenance Season rota will commence on the 27th October 2023 and will finish on the 5th April 2024. Drivers must commit to being on standby alternate weeks for the duration of the service. A week starts at 07.30 am on the Friday and finishes at 07.30am the following Friday. When you are on Standby, you could be called out at anytime to undertake a grit run.

Callouts for WINTER SERVICE will be paid as follows:

Standby will be at £226.50/ week.

£19.99 p/h (min 5 hrs) per run.

The contract start date will be 1st October 2023 to accommodate any training requirements, however the winter season does not commence until 27th October. Therefore, you will not be put onto the winter rota to commence on call payments 27th October. The end of the contract is 30 April 2024, however the winter rota will end on 5th April 2024.

Standby Payments per week from 07:30 Friday Morning to 07:30 the following Friday morning

Weekdays £26.64

Saturday/Sunday/Bank Holiday £46.65

Weekly rate £226.50

Gritting run – £19.99 p/h (min 5 hours)

N B if not available for gritting the figures above will be deducted for each day not available and will be paid to the person who covers.
£200 bonus at end of winter season if you complete all required weeks/runs.

All employees who undertake winter maintenance duties are required to give the Duty officer a minimum of 3 days’ notice of whether you will be attending and if you are not available the name of the person who will undertake your standby. During snow situations all trained drivers may be required and will if be put on standby as necessary.

If you are off sick for part of the week, you will not be able to undertake winter maintenance duties for the rest of the week unless agreed by Depot Management.

NB – Weighing off and off-loading salt is considered part of a grit run.

If sent home after a grit run and then called back for a second run payment for the second run will be paid in full.
