Tax product /business advisory role – Corporate Tax Department – London
 
Departmental description: The position is based in London in the Corporate Tax Department in the product advisory/business support tax team which covers the tax risk in business transactions within the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for the wide range of businesses conducted by JP Morgan.
 
An opportunity has arisen within the team to cover the Global Custody business which is subject of considerable investment currently. Subject to practical considerations and for this role probably after an initial period of 2 years, generally within the group there is rotation periodically of responsibilities with the objectives of providing new learning opportunities whilst simultaneously ensuring effective contingency planning and talent management for the longer term.
 
Job Summary:
 
The role will involve taking responsibility for analyzing the tax issues of a portfolio of markets and client types both technical and practical for our Global Custody business within our current risk framework to meet our ambitious target as well as dealing with ad hoc queries, tasks and projects  The role includes partnering with colleagues in the business, legal, finance and operations as well as working with colleagues within Corporate Tax in New York and in other locations, colleagues covering VAT and transfer pricing.
 Essential skills/experience:
 
The successful candidate must speak excellent English and must have trained and worked in the past, or currently be working, providing tax advice in a law or accounting firm. The successful individual should be knowledgeable on the tax risks and perspectives of a global custodian and fund accountant.
 
It is essential for the candidate to like dealing with people, be of flexible disposition and that they should be a good team player. He/she should be capable of communicating the tax issues to non tax personnel and must be interested in learning the commercial context in which the tax advice is being given. The successful candidate must be capable of working under pressure in a commercial environment while not compromising technical or ethical standards. A willingness to approach new and unfamiliar issues in an analytical and logical manner is required.
 
Desirable skills/experience (optional):
 
A UK tax background is not a requirement. A language other than English would be helpful but not necessary for the right candidate.
A knowledge of the transparency regimes such as CRS would be an advantage.
