Job Description for UK Depositary Manager

J.P. Morgan’s Depositary business is a market leader in the provision of depositary services, servicing in excess of $2 trillion of assets for 150 clients across 13 European locations. The Depositary team monitors activities of the investment managers to confirm compliance with regulations, identifying and resolving any breaches to help ensure the underlying investor interests are protected, across a range of fund structures, including funds subject to the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive and UCITS Regulation.
Reporting up to the UK Business Head of Depositary Services, this VP / ED role will be responsible for managing several UK client groups, with primary accountability for ensuring JPMorgan’s depositary oversight obligations are discharged in accordance with UK and other fund regulation. This includes continuous risk assessment, oversight of breach and error resolution, documentation review and the management of a formal client review programme involving ongoing site visits.
Key responsibilities include:
Pro-active and timely approach to client / industry issues, including analysis of key depositary risk assessment data and other MIS to support ongoing oversight
Regular meetings, presentations and other contact with clients at appropriate intervals ensuring client relationship plans are kept under review and shared with Investor Services Relationship Managers
Developing and sustaining high quality working relationships with senior client group personnel
Ensuring service levels are maintained / improved where appropriate in support of regular scorecards and annual industry surveys
Supporting the Relationship and Sales team engagements with existing client, new prospects, demonstrating J.P. Morgan’s awareness of regulatory change and Depositary product differentiators in supporting client needs
Protecting existing C&FS revenue and selectively growing the business, identifying opportunities to expand depositary services, profitably supporting regulatory change and evolving client strategies
Engagement with Operations, Product partners, Markets, Platform, Solutions, Risk, Legal and Compliance partners to ensure the Depositary strategy is comprehensive and supports the wider Investor Services business growth objectives appropriatelyExperience / Demonstrated Qualities:
Extensive experience of the Investment Management industry
In depth knowledge of UK fund regulation and awareness of the broader European mutual fund agenda including AIFMD and UCITS V impacts
Knowledge of the Depositary product offering and other fund products across key European locations including current competitor strengths and weakness, with primary emphasis on the UK market
Strong analytical and influencing skills to assess regulation, data and metrics, identify trends and opportunities
Network of industry contacts across asset managers, administrators, industry bodies, regulators and competitors
Ability to develop and maintain high quality working relationships with senior client group personnel
A high level of awareness and understanding of the ‘tail risk’ associated with the depositary product will be key to driving a culture of discipline and continuous improvement
