Overview
Associate role in the Hedge Funds and Asset Managers Risk team within CIB Credit Risk EMEA. The role will cover a wide range of clients, including Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Mutual Funds, Pension Funds, Liability Driven Investment Funds and family offices within EMEA.
 
Job Summary and Responsibilities
A Credit Risk Associate’s primary responsibilities in the Hedge Funds and Asset Managers Team are: 

Manage a portfolio of European Hedge Funds and asset managers, acting as the main point of contact for other Lines of Businesses

Lead client due diligence meetings, transaction structuring/execution and negotiation of documentation

Demonstrate deep understanding of fund strategies and risks inherent to them, including willingness and ability to train analyst day-to-day

Escalate non-standard asks and complex transactions to Senior Credit Coverage

Be responsive and constructive with colleagues in the Business and in Legal. Build effective client relationships, both internally and externally. Ensure that the Business’ priorities are understood, challenged and managed

Maintain primary responsibility for the management of the on-going credit relationship by assigning internal rating, recommending credit appetite and critically assessing the output of risk measures to determine appropriateness given specific client circumstances

Maintain a detailed and forward looking knowledge of developments in regulatory frameworks, industry and market trends across EMEA and globally when relevant

Work closely with NA/LATAM/APAC counterparts to maintain a consistent global coverage model

Manage one junior resource, including career development and resolution of specific development areas. Manage own workload and analyst’s workload, delegate with appropriate guidance and ensure deadlines are understood and met.

Oversees analysts’ work on key metrics to ensure all issues have been solved or escalated in a timely manner. Provide guidance and feedback on their work, especially around how to improve efficiency

Coach and train more junior members of the team to think holistically about riskQualifications & Experience
 
The following specific skills and experience are required to perform the role:
 

Strong credit skills. The candidate has to be able to lead in depth due diligence, co-ordinate and produce credit memos which will be the basis on which credit decisions are made, articulate a credit view and make credit recommendations to senior Credit Officers

Knowledge of the Hedge Fund and Asset Management industry, fund strategies and risks inherent to them, financial markets (including macro and micro economics) is a strong positive

A good knowledge of derivative and banking products and associated documentation (ISDA/CSA/GMRA…)

Understanding of the theory behind the risk and return metrics (VaR, Stress, MTM, DV01, other relevant risk sensitivities), including critical assessment of shortcomings / strengths of various measures / methods

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Be able to establish credibility and trust with clients, product specialists and Credit Officers, and to partner with them effectively.  High level of intellectual curiosity.
