Team Description:
The Asset Management Strategy team (AM Strategy) partners with senior Asset Management leadership as a trusted advisor to solve their most critical strategic and operational issues.
Typical engagements involve:
Performing competitive and market sizing analyses, including profiling competitors’ offerings / strategies and identifying factors driving growth or change in industry structure
Identifying and developing growth strategies, based on identifying customer segments, buying behaviors, and customer value propositions
Translating growth strategies into operational initiatives, by modeling business decisions, determining cost structures / drivers, and assessing financial impacts
Defining operating models and addressing related organizational design and governance issues, such as devising coverage models or defining client segments to differentiate service strategies
Engaging in business-wide or function-wide transformation efforts
Managing or facilitating inter-line of business initiatives
Driving development of key leadership communication and strategy materials (including annual Operating Committee off-sites)
Assessing strategic rationale and drivers of value in potential mergers and acquisitions. Our team is seen as an incubator of talent, and former members have taken on roles across the firm.Team Approach:
The team follows a hypothesis-driven, fact-based approach to problem solving. The opportunity to solve critical business problems, coupled with the team’s diversity of perspectives and backgrounds distinguish AM Strategy from other areas of the Firm. Typical project teams are comprised of 2 to 4 members, most of whom are former management consultants from top consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, etc.). Project lengths vary but are usually between 2 to 6 months, depending on complexity, scope, and potential follow-on engagements.
Functions & Responsibilities:
Analysts and Associates in AM Strategy help drive key projects forward, executing and owning detailed analyses and developing comprehensive presentations. They collaborate closely with Vice Presidents and Executive Directors on the team, and can expect to work extensively with other colleagues across Asset Management, including front office, product, finance, risk, operations, and technology. Analysts and Associates are expected to develop recommendations and discussion materials for senior leadership meetings. They have many opportunities to present their work to key stakeholders and engage directly with senior management, including Operating Committee members.
Skills required:
A hypothesis-driven mind-set, combined with strong business intuition, creativity and tenacity, to develop business insights
Ability to provide structure to ambiguous situations, applying problem-solving frameworks to cut through ambiguity with confidence
Strong quantitative skills, particularly designing complex models in Excel
Ability to build consultative relationships with senior management, becoming a trusted partner
Ability to prepare clear and concise, well-designed presentations in Powerpoint
Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills; prior experience presenting to senior management
Exceptional interpersonal leadership and influencing skills, and ability to achieve goals without direct control over resources
A passion for creating shareholder value and a commitment to excellence.
Work experience and education:
Analyst:
First-class honours degree or equivalent preferred
Quantitative background preferred but not required
Financial services background strongly preferred
Associate / Senior Associate:
Experience in a corporate development group, and/or strategy or management consulting firm
