As a qualified Building Surveyor, have acquired a vast array of experience that has enhanced knowledge of the construction industry throughout career to date. Knowledge has been further enhanced by functioning at a variety of levels including managerial, project management on property refurbishments, and in particular that of domestic, education, leisure, listed buildings and more recently that of DDA design and implementation work. Such experience has been particularly invaluable in developing an understanding of the interrelation between various trades and the requirements necessary to ensure smooth continuity of such work.
Have also spent a number of years working within the public and private sectors related to building maintenance management, the majority of which has been domestic properties belonging to various housing associations and local authorities. Incorporated into this has been crisis resolution, dealing with complaints, in particular working in partnership with the insurance industry. Such work has developed skills in negotiation / mediation, enhancing these techniques during high levels of arousal and stress from customer / clients and principal contractors during times of crisis in particular (re: Floods, Carlisle 2005 and Hull 2007). All of the above has been achieved by effectively working as part of a team whilst subscribing to the core personal values of collaboration, innovation, mutual dependency, professional sustainable growth and professional identity to name but a few. Am selfmotivated, driven, and believe in producing a high quality standard that is reflected in day-to-day work.
As part of previous experience, I have undertaken condition surveys / scoping surveys to identify potential causes of building defects and life cycle costing as part of the Corporate Technical Services Department for Manchester City Council. Ultimately acting as the designer within the CDM process am involved in the compilation of the Target cost for the project, drawing up the Contract documents, Design, and implementation of the rectification work necessary. In addition act as the Contact Administrator for various projects, which includes working in partnership with Principal Contractors within the Small Works Framework encompassing the multi disciplinary team.
More recently, I have spent the past few years working within the NHS, this being CWP (Cheshire & Wirral NHS foundation trust and Cumbria NHS Foundation trust, this work varied from undertaking and developing both trust’s anti ligature programme, this enabled the trusts to highlight the ligature risk to service users and to designate financial funding year on year to tackle high/medium and low risk areas to all their inpatient units. I have also diversified in this area and was tasked within Cumbria to establish an appropriate site to design and Build two data centres to future proof the trust’s IT data need.
I also undertook Capital and revenue works for both trusts in the role of project manager.
As a Building Surveyor, the uses of IT software is essential and from a standing start have become proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and AutoCAD, using all three on a daily basis.
In addition to having ten years hands-on experience, have also collated a vast portfolio of Continuous Professional Development whilst current undertaking APC/RICS final year.
