McQueens Dairies – Operations Manager
May 2017 to present
Private business and Retail business sales and Fleet Management covering Scotland and England, with direct management of two Distribution Managers, one covering Scotland and the other England. Answering to the Commercial Director.
This involved the management of 155 delivery vehicles, four HGV’s and 130 drivers and 120 office and sales staff. Due to the product being distributed and delivered the loads were time sensitive so the organisation, implementation and infrastructure had to be carefully managed.
The role also included visiting potential commercial clients, negotiating supply contracts and managing the account. This also provided me with the opportunity to up sell other products and through excellent customer service and engagement I was able to expand on accounts and network with neighbouring clients.
I was responsible for reducing the cost of the fleet from initial purchase of vehicles and the procurement and renegotiation of maintenance contracts. I was also responsible for vehicle insurance matters including claims negotiation and potential policy rebates.
Over the past year I was able to increase commercial customer turnover by 20% (target of 10%) which increased B2B revenue by £104,000 p/a in long term sales and save £137k (target of £25k) on the fleet costs including insurance claims. This far exceeded expectations on both cost reduction and sales. This involved creating and implementing a company-wide improvement program in transport operations and infrastructure and the management of that change which was achieved by positive employee engagement throughout.
Asda – Transport Manager E-Commerce
August 2016 to May 2017
(Fixed term nine month contract)

In this role I have been able to facilitate cost savings in relation to simple vehicle maintenance, and put in place better procedures and practice to reduce costs associated with waste and shrinkage, also leading to reduced labour costs. I have also been able to resolve a long running issue with training compliance, meaning the department no longer requires regular inspections in this matter, at no extra cost to the company.
Also charged with creating and implementing a strategy which increased the business area market share with home delivery shopping.
