Ian Mackay
Bathgate
07804 792015

A highly experienced Commercial Vehicle Service Manager / Transport Engineer with more than 40 years’ experience in the UK Truck Industry.
During my time in the industry I have gained extensive knowledge and experience of working with Road Transport operators and understanding their needs and subsequent commitments to their shareholders and customers.
A cost-conscious individual with a genuine desire to make things work, willing and able to go “the extra mile” to ensure the job is done correctly whilst maintaining professional standards, compliance and satisfactory results for all involved. I have a good business mind and have proved in the past that I can convert a business from potential failure to success.
Have an in-depth knowledge of Heavy Commercial Vehicles, current Road Transport Legislation and Compliance and all aspects of maintaining and operating Heavy Goods Vehicles, I also understand and appreciate the difficulties experienced by both operator, driver and service provider in abiding by and complying with the very strict rules that now govern our industry.
Possess good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, the ability to influence decisions and to develop positive internal and external relationships. Enjoy being part of, as well as managing and motivating a successful and productive team and sharing knowledge and experience with others who wish to progress in their chosen field.
I have gained a great deal of respect from colleagues and customers by being “up front and honest” whilst adopting a “no nonsense approach” to issues / problems that confront us daily and resolving them satisfactorily for all involved.
At present I, have resumed my Transport Management / Compliance Services whilst seeking new opportunities.

WORK EXPERIENCE

MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd – Bellshill
2014-01 – 2015-03
Bellshill
Working on a “turnaround project” with a Manufacturer owned Commercial Vehicle Distributor in the Central Belt of Scotland.
My duties in this project involves management of Commercial Vehicle repair and maintenance facility with the intention of improving quality of work, labour utilisation and efficiency, completion and processing of all documentation relating to vehicle roadworthiness and Operator’s Licence compliance. There was also a major focus on cost control / reduction, labour costs / overtime and general overheads.
I have been successful in achieving improvements in all targeted areas including customer perception of the service / facility however, I failed to achieve my own personal goals as I was restricted to what I could do by internal company politics / restraints and the departure of other key members of staff which left me with the responsibilities and workload of 3 positions, with no additional resource or help from the senior management team.

Transport Management / Compliance Consultant
Independent Vehicle Inspections
2008-05 – 2014-01
Having made the decision to remove myself from “front line management” in the Commercial Vehicle repair industry, I decided to utilise my many years of knowledge and experience of this industry and share it with associates that I have developed relationships with during that time, this coupled with my Technical Qualification and Certificates of Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations encouraged me to embark on a career path that would benefit myself as well as the people who have supported me in business for many years.
During this period, I provided an Operator’s Licence Compliance monitoring and auditing service. I have been the Nominated Transport Manager on several Operators Licences and performed duties relating to monitoring of drivers, driver’s hours, ensuring compliance with Domestic and EU Drivers Hours Regulations, compilation and recording of hours for Working Time Directive purposes, monitoring of vehicle maintenance standards and costs, carried out in house and by third party contractor.
I have assisted several operators who fell below the required standards in relation to Vehicle Maintenance Requirements, prepared Action Plans to present to the Traffic Commissioner at Public Enquiry and ensured compliance was regained in the shortest possible timescale and maintained whilst in my control.
In addition, I carried out Vehicle Maintenance Audits, Vehicle Roadworthiness Inspections, and Vehicle Maintenance Investigations.
