Fujairah Bulk Shipping – Transport Manager (end of contract)
I relocated to the UAE after being made redundant from my previous employer in April 2009, which I had been looking to do for some time. I was working on a large land reclamation project moving a minimum of 70000MT of rock from a mountain and placing it in the sea in Fujairah on the eastern side and the project itself was completed in early 2011 6 months ahead of schedule.
Main duties and responsibilities were as follows:
• The management of 85 vehicles including rock boxes, flat bed trailers and low loaders, including the servicing and maintenance which is carried out in our fully equipped on site workshop.
• The management of 140 drivers on 2 shifts including disciplinary procedures. This included driver appraisals and training where needed.
• Compiling maintenance and diesel expenditure and cost/MT reports
• The overall responsibility for the delivery, usage and savings through efficiencies of diesel.
• Health and safety in relation to transport
• Regular visit to our quarry and 3rd party suppliers to ensure a satisfactory service is being provided by our road trucks.
• Regular liaison with the operational staff regarding targets to be achieved daily.
• Overall responsibility for the continual operation of five weighbridges and associated staff.

I started working for the company as a Ready-mix concrete Shipper. Duties were organising day to day deliveries of Ready-mix. This encompassed taking orders from customers and organising the fleet of trucks to ensure all of the day’s deliveries were met and on time.
After 2 years I was promoted to Transport Supervisor. I was responsible for a fleet of 90 sub contract and 4 company fleet vehicles and drivers.
This includes dealing with:

• regular vehicle audits
• quarry visits
• customer site visits
• haulier disputes
• disciplinary and grievance procedures
• financial issues between hauliers and the company
• serving notice to hauliers when not required or up to company standards
