Data Scientist –Executive Director Role (London)
 
J.P. Morgan’s Corporate & Investment Bank New Product Development group is tasked with accelerating new solutions to market through research, strategic analysis and testing of potentially transformative concepts. A small and diverse group of engineers, data scientists and business analysts, this team works closely with the core business and external partners to identify and align innovative new technologies and business processes to the firm, creating value for our clients and disrupting current legacy processes and business models. 
 
The Role:

The Data Scientist in this role will be integral to the NPD Data Science effort based out of our London office. They will recruit and develop multiple small teams, each headed by a Vice President and composed of several Associate level data scientists, that will be tasked to develop innovative analysis. They will work with the established Data Science team in New York and business analysts and software engineers within NPD, both in London and New York, to contribute to the advanced data analytics efforts of the New Product Development group as a whole. As a leader they will coordinate the effort of the whole team, mentor and develop both vice president and associate level team members, participate in recruiting, development and direction setting initiatives and work with Line-of-Business leadership to understand their needs and applications and find data science solutions to their problems.
 

They will help build a foundation of state-of-the-art technical and scientific capabilities to support a number of ongoing and planned data analytics projects:

Build an in-depth understanding of the problem domain and available data assets

Research, design, and evaluate machine learning approaches and models

Participate in data architecture and engineering decision-making to support analytics

Take initiative in evaluating and adapting new approaches from data science research

Investigate data visualization and summarization techniques for conveying key findings

Communicate findings and obstacles to stakeholders to help drive the delivery to marketKey Requirements:

Professional experience as a data scientist, quantitative analyst, senior scientist or a related software engineering role

Experience leading the development of data science projects

Experience leading the development of data science teams

Doctoral degree, or equivalent experience, in mathematics, computer science, physical sciences or other quantitative discipline

Thorough understanding of probability and statistics, Bayesian methods, time series analysis.

Experience of Finance, Banking, Insurance or similar businesses a strong plus.

Expertise in theory and practice of Statistics, Empirical Data Analysis, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing

Experience and in-depth knowledge of Python and other modern programming languages as well as statistical computing environments and financial domain systems such as time-series databases.

Experience in at least one specialized statistical computing environment, Experience in practical data processing, data mining, text mining and information retrieval tasks

Experience of scalable data management tools including Relational and NoSQL databases, Big Data architectures a strong plus

Great communication skills, team player, self-starter, demonstrated strong work ethic

Experience working with senior line of business leaders

Experience managing and leading teams of technical and analytical people.

Desire to use modern technologies as a disruptive influence within the Finance domain
