HGV 1 Tanker Driver

We are looking for On Standby Temp Class 1 Tanker Drivers for our Client.

The Job requires:
Be available to work between 18:00 and 06:00 (nights) or 06:00 and 18:00 (days). You do not need to attend the clients Depot to be on standby. You can be at home or elsewhere, within an hour travel of the depot.
If called in to work, need to arrive at depot (Earls Colne) within an hour of the call maximum.
If called in to work, a call out fee will be paid.
If called in to work, the Standby payment is void, but replaced by a minimum 10hr shift at the applicable hourly rate.
If not called in to work, then the Standby payment stands.

It will be Tanker driving, for which you will need an EUSR National Water Hygiene Scheme card – this would be preffered but we can provide eLearning courses to obtain.

You may also need to drive a van with bottled water to various locations.

You will be expected to be flexible in that unless we’re previously advised they can’t, due to the nature of our emergency work if we call someone in, we’ll expect that they can remain out and spend a night (or day) away if required. Obviously paid.

Drivers will be expected to follow the clients explicit guidance with regards to use of our equipment, completion of paperwork, and often working as part of a team delivering emergency drinking water supplies to both industry and public. Once shown the operating procedures and confirmed as competent to repeat them alone, you will be responsible for the safe filling of tankers from roadside hydrants, or water utility premises; transport, and safe delivery of the water into customer storage or sometimes directly into the water networks in an area which is experiencing supply problems.

Emergency work is up and down by nature; sometimes shift lengths will be 12-15 hours, other times a job might get called out, and then stood down within 2 hours. It varies wildly. Hence you needing to be flexible.

What it does provide though, is something a bit different to just being a steering wheel attendant. You will be expected to work as part of a team of drivers, overcome problems on site (with the clients guidance obviously) and hopefully take some pride/satisfaction that the work you would be doing is key to national infrastructure, in providing safe and quality assured drinking water to any number of people (sometimes thousands).
