Service & Yard Manager

A company dealing in pallet and container pooling services, serving customers in a range of industrial and retail supply chains. CHEP offers wooden and plastic pallets, small display pallets, crates and IBC containers.

Point of contact for order fulfilment, distribution and transport operations and ensures service delivery in line with SLAs and KPI requirements.

·    Contribute and drive process improvement within the yard and service department through projects and continuous improvement.

·    Turnaround performances – monitor and improve site turnaround performance of hauliers to network and plant targets.

·    Working closely with FLT and Waste equipment suppliers to ensure maximum machinery capability and minimise downtime.

·    Manage all industrial relations issues within team including performance management, absence management, grievances, appeals etc. Distribute service office and yard tasks to all team members as appropriate. Provide short-term cover to yard or service desk where required.

·    Enable and deliver excellent communication channels with all employees on team. Ensure regular updates on shifts, regarding shift, team, plant, and company performance.

·    Ensure all shift members have the skills required to carry out their role (including SAP training), and development plans generated for each individual.

·    Team lead on a project to review costs and implement cost savings for the UK shared network sites.

·    Tasked to achieved savings £5m across 10 sites by January 2020, the team consisted of a Corporate Process Manager, Operations Manager and four other employees including a finance lead. Completed two sites before leaving to join Woodland Group.

·    Rochester – achieved annual savings £1.5m by introducing more efficient processes and layout, improved route planning ad trailer fill metrics and cut sub-contractor costs.

·    Wakefield – Implemented new warehouse processes and layout, introduced cross-functional working patterns and reduced expenditure on agency workers and sub-contractors that resulted in annual savings of £632k.

Operations Manager (September 2017 to August 2018)

·    Managed 90 employees, vehicles and 100 trailers.

·    Day to day operational management of the warehouse and transport overseeing and organising health & safety checks, routine vehicle checks, route planning and adhering to company standard and regulation and compliance with transport and environmental legislation.
