SIMON BLACKWELL
Simon Blackwell- Cover letter
Following 18 years in the air conditioning industry I decided to follow my dream of
becoming an HGV driver.
This was the career path I envisioned for myself after leaving school but having to wait until
I was 21 meant that I would need to consider a different option. I worked in a couple of jobs
whilst applying for different apprenticeships to learn a trade and finally got a chance as an
apprentice air conditioning engineer. As time went on I qualified and moved up the ranks to
a point where I would have needed to take a significant pay cut not to mention the costs in
order to obtain my HGV licence.
Over the past couple of years I have not been happy in project management, whilst I enjoy
travelling around the country on site visits, I seemed to be spending more and more time in
the office.
With the change in legislation allowing drivers to go straight to class 1 and some savings to
pay for it I decided to give it a go. I have now completed all training and have my C+E
licence, I have got my drivers card and CPC and am now looking for an opportunity to start
my new career.
I am punctual, good at following instructions, I have a good knowledge of the UK road
network and have good communication skills. I have done a small amount of work in the
logistics sector working as a drivers mate after leaving school.
