HGV Class 1 Driver

We’ve got the work, now we need your help: Straw Wagon Driver required in South Norfolk

We are looking to recruit a permanent HGV Class 1 (LGV C+E) Driver to work in our straw haulage operation based out of Bunwell. The straw wagons are 18m+ long, 4.8m+ high combinations designed to carry 36×4′ or 48×3′ straw bales destined for biomass power generation.

Your start times are currently from 4.00am-7.00am with a day normally taking around 12 hours to complete, although earlier starts may oocasionally be required subject to operational requirements. A typical day will take you to a straw storage site on a farm in the East of England where you will be loaded with large hesston bales. You will strap up your load and deliver it to one of our customer’s fuel storage or processing sites in Norfolk or Cambridgeshire.

Our work here is varied and we like to be flexible so you may have the opportunity to train and work on our other disciplines too.

We work 365 days a year so you’ll need to be up for regular Saturday and occasional Sunday and bank holiday working. Occasional nights out may also be required when working further from base. We recognise your contribution on these occasions and at the end of a long day, so you’ll get good rates of overtime pay. The basic pay is pretty good for the hours and type of work we do too. Earnings potential are in the region of £35,000pa, depending on the hours and number of weekends you work.

Full on the job training for all aspects of our work is provided with assessment based and Driver CPC training delivered on site by experienced external training providers.

Most of our work takes us onto farms so an interest in farms and farming would help you get the most out of the job. We ask that you’re reliable, punctual and able to show your best to our farmers and customers. We’re in the food and farming business, so personal hygiene and presentation are important, but we trust that you’ll be as professional in this regard as you are in your driving and record keeping. CONTRACT HAULAGE WORK AVAILABLE ALL YEAR ROUND FOR OWNER-DRIVERS AND FLEET OWNERS WITH RIGID OR ARTICULATED VEHICLES.

We are looking for owner-drivers, fleet owners, and HGV drivers (Class 1 or 2) based anywhere in the UK and interested in taking the next step up and becoming owner-operators and transport company owners. To get started and apply for an Operator’s Licence, you need to have £8,000 which is a requirement of the UK and EU transport regulations (you won’t spend it). We can help you with the rest of the process.
