Due to the Recession my contract with Bardsleys Construction came to an end. It was proving very difficult to gain employment in the industry due to the recession. I took this opportunity to set up a small construction company based in my hometown of Bolton.
By the benefit of coming from a large family I managed to start by taking on small works for family and friends. Within a couple of months, I was taking on works ranging from 20k – 40k.
I was undertaking extension works and refurbishment works for private clients. By the end of my two years I was able to take on work upto the value of 130k. I had built a great team and a great reputation of the company. I decided to hand over the company to a member of the extended family, this was due to me wanting to progress myself further up the ladder within my career. I wanted to be more involved in larger and more complex projects.

After Graduating from the University of Salford, this was my first step into the world of construction. I couldn’t have asked for a better site be placed on. The First site was in Blackburn which was to be a new build Healthcare building for Blackburn College. The site had just started and a reduce level dig was taking place. I was placed with a Site Manager and a Site Engineer. Unfortunately, I could not see this project through as I was needed in Liverpool to help a Site Manager who had just returned from a serious operation. I was in Liverpool on a new build housing project for 3 months and was then moved to Wigan to another very large new build housing project to help a Site Engineer.
