A trouble-shooter with outgoing personality, currently employed in a Local authority fleet management team working with a mixed fleet spread over multiple operating centres within the local authority area. SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
- Saved £152k by implementing extra planned maintenance on MAN E300 vehicles, reducing engine wear, breakdowns and need to replace engines (seven engines replaced in nine months).
- Successfully reduced parts budget expenditure from £14k to £11k/month.

CAREER
Dec 2015 – Present
- Initially employed as a Consultant Fleet Inspector to oversee and audit the Council’s outsourced maintenance regime.
- On completion of three-month trial period offered and accepted the post of Fleet Inspector on a full time contract basis as a Council employee.
- Duties include but not restricted to; monitoring the 50 plus heavy vehicles spread over 4 operating centres which are currently on an outsourced maintenance contract.
- Ensuring their compliance to O licence conditions.
- Liaising with sub contracted maintenance providers to ensure compliance with all legal standards and council procedures.
- Monitoring the maintenance of some 250 light vehicles, with a mix of both road going and off road vehicles, plant and trailers.
- Writing vehicle specifications to purchase light and heavy new vehicles and plant as required by internal department needs.
- Inspecting light and heavy vehicles and plant for audit purposes.
- Inspecting new vehicles as supplied to ensure they match the required specification.
- Dealing with queries from the various departments regarding regulations and requirements for the safe, legal and efficient operation of the department’s fleet.
- Arranging fitment and removal of ancillary systems such as tracking and all round camera and recording systems.
- Scrutinising sub contracted companies billing before authorising payment.

Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter (stand in Shift Supervisor)
- Service and maintenance of a fleet of 21, T1250 Powertrans 550 tonne pit haul trucks.
- Acting as shift leading hand, covering absence of existing staff members, also various CAT graders and CAT 992/994 loaders.
- Servicing and maintaining 15 light vehicles including Toyota pickup trucks and minibuses, Troopers and Prada’s.
- Servicing and maintaining onsite plant such as compressors, pressure washers and any small plant as required.
2010-2011

Depot Engineering Supervisor
Appointed to overhaul the maintenance regime, at the world headquarters of First Transport Group.
- Duties included: Overseeing the running and maintaining of a fleet of 192 vehicles with 28 trailers
- Reorganising the maintenance regime to meet the demands of the operations staff which were not being met before my arrival
- Bringing back into service 30 plus vehicles which had been cannibalised to provide spares for serviceable vehicles instead of them being repaired, due to perceived staff shortages.
- The problem was resolved by utilising existing staff with a new shift pattern and more focus on workshop space and staff time management.
2007-2010
Stagecoach Western, Cumnock Depot, East Ayrshire
Depot Engineering Manager
Appointed with brief to improve fleet vehicle maintenance standards, administration and H&S records. Managed 15 staff and £2.5m budget.
- Successfully improved H&S standards; in random Stagecoach audit, Cumnock depot scored 93%: before I was appointed a planned audit in 2006 was only 78%.
- Improved record and audit system to extent that VOSA visit on random basis now instead of annually. In recent visit checked 20% of vehicles without finding any problems.
- Reduced breakdown rate by 80% :- any vehicle needing something as simple as a replacement wiper blade/bulb on route requiring a replacement vehicle is classed by Stagecoach as a breakdown.
- Deputised for Operations Manager for four months, managing 86 staff including the drivers.
- Managed fault diagnosis and repair of mixed fleet of 44 vehicles from mini (24 passengers), midi (29 passengers), coaches and double deckers (96 passengers).
- Successfully reduced parts budgeted expenditure by 20% from £14k to £11k/month.
- Reduced maintenance staff by rearranging shift patterns saving £25k/yr.
- Saved £152k by implementing extra planned maintenance on MAN E300 vehicles at 30,000 kilometres (instead of 80,000 service interval) with benefits of reducing engine wear, breakdowns and need to replace engines (seven engines required in previous nine months in 2007).
- Implemented new H&S systems for drivers and maintenance staff to meet and implement all statutory HASAWA, COSHH requirements.
- Communicated at all levels managing a skilled workforce in unionised environment promoting good teamwork and pleasant working environment without any serious issues.

Appointed to repair/rebuild engines and gearbox to Mercedes Benz standards and become approved Technician for Mercedes Benz 24-hour breakdown cover. As Shift Chargehand (6pm-12pm) managed (four Technicians and two Admin) staff.
- Substantially improved customer satisfaction levels in overcoming their HGV servicing problems, leading to increased regular servicing business from clients.
- Increased new service business by ‘recommendations’ from current satisfied clients.
- Serviced the full range of Mercedes Benz vehicles from Vito 2T vans to 44T artics.
