•Full responsibility for 2 Waste Recycling Operations
•First Operation is a MRF Recycling plant consisting of 20 Pickers
•Second Operation is an SRF Recycling Production Facility consisting of 5 Operatives
•MRF Plant Sorting Comingled Materials such as Paper, Cardboard, Plastic, Glass, Aluminium & Steel. End product is in a baled format.
•SRF Plant producing alternative to fuel Product (Solid Recovered Fuel) from waste that would normally go to landfill. SRF is used to power Incinerators and Cement kilns as an alternative to fuel
•Responsible for all Health & Safety and training on site
•Full control and responsibility maintenance of the plant in terms of preventative maintenance and also management and monitoring all maintenance plans.
•Full control of all inbound and outbound material, daily contact with suppliers and customers
•Very much a hands on role operating Fork Lift Trucks and Loading Shovels when required
January 2012 – April 2015 Transport Manager, Hargreaves Transport Waste Services
•Responsible for the waste services of SITA UK contract for the North East
•Mixed Fleet of HGV vehicles, operating Walking Floors and Ejectors

June 2010-September 2011 Site Manager, Gist Primary Transport
•Overall responsibility for the site in Carlisle (Warehouse & Transport) Chilled food for M&S, 60 staff plus up to 40 Agency staff.
•Transport was a mixture of own fleet 44t tractor units and a mixture of standard trailers, double deck trailers both conventional and LFFD. Subcontractors also used some traction only and some
full rigs. Deliveries to 8 Gist Secondary Depots min twice daily. Circa 60 to 80 loads per day outbound and circa 20 loads per day inbound from other M&S suppliers. Hourly shunts from C&G factory
to Gist warehouse with C&G products.
•Gist customer (Cavaghan & Gray) is largest chilled food supplier to M&S. Deliveries to every Depot 7 days a week. This is a Pick by tray operation, Order received via SAP EDI transmission with
PO numbers, Picked and Paved out through IMS (Siemens) All trays carry TAG and TEL barcode indentification.
•We also collected from 19 other M&S suppliers and the product is RFID cross docked through Red Prairie in Carlisle and distributed with C&G product to Gist Secondary depots.
•Up to 300,000 trays picked and cross docked per week through a 12,000 sq ft chilled + 1temperature warehouse chamber. This can rise to 450,000 trays per week during peak.
•In addition to M&S we also picked and loaded 40,000 trays of C&G products per week for Asda.
•The operation is based on the C&G site therefore very demanding customer facing on a daily basis at all levels including the Operations Director. Daily, weekly and monthly review meetings in
place.
•Operational improvements 2010 Vs 2011. C&G in top 3 suppliers to M&S (number 1 supplier for 3 month in a row) for service accuracy, never in the top 20 in 2010.
2004-October 2009 Regional General Manager, Exel / DHL
•Overall responsibility for a 20 core vehicle transport operation on behalf of a customer in Leeds (Nampak Cartons) Mixture of 44t and 17.5t vehicles and mixture of standard and double deck
trailers.
•Coordinating the Exel core fleet operating within a 100 mile radius with subcontractors managing 30% of the daily volume to long haul destinations including Scotland and London
•Restructured the operations teams in Leeds removing people from key positions and brought my own team in to help implement the changes required to bring the contract back into line and within
budget.
•Implementing significant system and process improvements to bring the contract back in line with budget and to facilitate future business growth (Contract was costing customer £50k per week over
budget) this was a very demanding customer and the relationships between DHL and the customer had become very fragile. I won the trust of the customer by fostering openness and working with the MD
to understand the issues that needed addressing. The operation was based on the customer site in Leeds.
•Renewed contract on a 3 year deal in April 2008 without customer putting business out to tender.
•Agreed specification and set up project team to implement new transport route planning system Ethos.
•Additional revenue generated in circa of £200k through back loading from DHL sites into Yorkshire
•Introduced double deck trailers for long haul saving £200k per annum.
•Introduced the sharing of DHL assets across Yorkshire site during varied peaks, headed up this project as part of the Yorkshire Cluster Group. Costs savings to the business in first year circa
£300k on vehicle & labour hire.
2001-2004 General Manager, Exel
•Responsible for the commercial management of three key accounts:
oSCA Hygiene Products – two ambient warehouses totalling 280,000 sq ft with 200 staff involved in the case pick and full pallet pick and dispatch operation. Lead, Project Managed and Implemented
new version of Locator Xpert Warehouse Management system in 2003.
oVileda – managing the transport operation consisting of eight drivers and eight articulated vehicles
oDunlopillo Beds – a home delivery transport operation with 10 drivers and 10 vehicles ranging from 7.5t to 38t articulated delivering and assembling beds into customer’s bedrooms.
•Negotiating and securing a new ten year operating agreement with SCA to take effect in April 2003
•Working in close conjunction with Union representatives to enable the smooth implementation of a new shift system on the SCA contract resulting in annual savings of £90,000
•Managing the successful restructure of the management team on behalf of SCA with no redundancy costs and net savings of £74,000
•Coordinating the redeployment of drivers and assets following the acquisition of Dunlopillo Beds by Slumberland. 10 drivers and 2 admin staff were TUPE transferred to Slumberland and all assets
were redeployed across the business due to Slumberland buying out Dunlopillo and moving the operations in house.
•Securing a commercial deal with another Exel contract to base a number of vehicles at the Prudhoe site and manage the Northern home deliveries on behalf of Next Home Deliveries. The main bulk of
deliveries were furniture into customer’s homes where the packaging was stripped and the furniture assembled. Because of the interaction with the customers in their homes the importance of the
correct drivers paramount to customer perception.
•Fully accountable for an annual budget of £7 million for the 3 accounts with a profit of £980,000
•Identifying and maximising opportunities to develop new and existing business opportunities through improved customer relationships
•Project managed and replaced two different warehouse management systems at two different warehouses with Locator Xpert bringing the entire project in £22,000 under budget
1999-2001 Site Manager, Exel
•Responsible for the management of the warehouse, transport, finance, systems, stock control, HR, administration and H&S functions in accordance with budgetary constraints
•Providing management and support to the Operations Manager, Finance Manager, Stock & Systems Manager and H&S/Training Manager
