Global Penetration Testing Team Operations Manager
Responsible for managing the global penetration testing teams operations, assessing technical issues, scheduling of internal penetration testers on assessments, research projects and related tasks. Co-ordinating with the Global penetration testing manager (London) and the regional managers for EMEA (London), North America (New Jersey) and AsiaPAC (Singapore) to assign the appropriate resource to the required task.
Ensuring that management, executive directors, managing directors and other key stakeholders are regularly informed of the status of penetration testing operations.
You will be a member of a highly motivated and technical penetration testing team who will perform in depth technical security assessments of internally and third party developed solutions to identify technical vulnerabilities, so that these can be remediated or mitigated to prevent adversaries from exploiting them. A good understanding of technology is required and a knowledge or penetration testing or related cyber activities beneficial. This plays a pivotal role in protecting the firm’s business operations, our clients and employees’ data and the organizations intellectual property.
This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:
A good understanding of penetration testing and other security assessment activities
In depth knowledge and proven track record in a technical discipline such as penetration testing, cyber security, tech support or development
Managing test readdress for a global team of testers
Managing demand for an internal pen testing rescore
Proven experience of co-ordinating and managing penetration testing engagements
Ability to resolve road blocks that prevent testing e.g. escalating of issues to ensure timely resolution so as not to affect the testing timelines
Understanding of risk and controls and audit requirements related to cyber security.
Process engineering and re-engineering skills in a technical team
Working on supporting the function for audit readiness
Good understanding of how to create and present management information (specifically in relation to penetration testing delivery)
Experience with regulatory guidelines and Frameworks e.g. PCI (ex QSA, ISA) would be a bonus.
Understanding of application/infrastructure security – specifically limitations and pre-requisites for penetration testing
Ability to understand and critique testing approaches used in the team on a basic technical level as well as a business engagement level.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of general Cyber Security principles and have a thorough understanding of delivery process for penetration testing in a large scale organisation and be able to provide oversight of this function.
The global penetration testing team operations manager will be responsible for ensuring that all internal penetration tests are performed in line with agreed schedule, will track the test through its full lifecycle from request to reporting, managing stakeholders throughout. As well as this there would be an expectation that a successful candidate would deal with basic technical and process queries from the business on technical findings and acting as a “first line” Cyber security expert.
As the role requires a high level of stakeholder management and assessment coordination this would suit an individual with excellent client facing skills who also appreciates the highly technical abilities of the penetration testers and is able to interact with both.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a large organisation and understand how to develop organisational awareness and build a network of business contacts. Will be able to communicate with different audiences and tailor messaging to suit, including verbal written and where necessary using presentation techniques.
Someone from a security consulting firm or a financial services background would have a distinct advantage for this role.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
Experience of running and maturing a penetration testing delivery program
Good knowledge of technology and an understanding of penetration testing reports from a technical and business requirements perspective
Project management experience of short term penetration testing engagements
Experience developing processes and reviewing and improving existing processes
Experience of creating Key Performance Indicators and other metrics and how to present and report them e.g. generating management information packs or dashboards
Strong experience in the delivery of penetration testing engagements
Identifying the cause of delivery issues and developing and implementing an action plan to reduce likelihood of future delivery issues
Experience of working in a large complex organisation
A delivery focused attitude whilst maintaining a high quality service
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Be well organized with the ability to prioritize your own workload and be able to handle escalations appropriately
Able to build strong relationships with internal testers, clients and stakeholders
