Job Summary

We are looking for engineers in Southern England

An opportunity has opened to join an industry leader in the marine trade. River Canal Rescue (RCR) offers nationwide breakdown and recovery services for boats using the UK inland waterways. They provide a range of services to over 20,000 customers across the UK and are an established family owned and run organisation. RCR is looking for an experienced engineer to join their team of 30 and help to drive standards in the south of England.

A proven background and experience in plant engineering, HGV engineering, marine engineering, or mobile engineering is required. Experience with boats and an interest in the waterways is beneficial but not necessary as training will be supplied. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in diagnosing faults with, and repairing, petrol & diesel engines, machinery & components, and 12/24 volt electrical systems.

The core business is akin to the AA or RAC in that we provide breakdown and recovery services to our members. Therefore, an ability to think on your feet and implement running repairs rather than relying on the replacement of faulty components is a key skill. You will also need to be reliable and self motivated as this role is home based and very similar to being self employed. Finally, as the role involves travel between each repair, you will need to be a confident driver and be comfortable spending between 30% and 70% of your time driving.

An ability to work with IT and web based systems is desirable as all jobs are allocated via online systems however, the level of competence required is minimal and training will be provided to suit.

Responsibilities and Duties

General duties will entail:

Repair and maintenance of engines, gearbox, electrical systems
Attending call outs
Undertaking servicing & maintenance
Inspecting installations and reporting
Dealing directly with customers
Coordinating paperwork
Keeping records of van servicing and maintenance.
Mange stock and equipment
Promoting company and increasing membership.
