Transport Planner

Do you have a passion for logistics and keeping operations running smoothly? Are you a strong communicator and problem-solver? This role is perfect for someone with experience in transport and logistics, particularly those who have held a Class 2 HGV licence. While a Class 2 licence is not essential, prior experience in transport operations would be beneficial.

This is a varied and important role within our company. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our transport operations, ensuring timely and efficient deliveries while keeping costs in check.

Main Purpose:

Arrange timely, efficient deliveries utilizing the most cost-effective method and vehicle type, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities:

Liaison: Coordinate with customers, sales team, production, and yard operations to agree on delivery arrangements.
Local & National Deliveries: Work with the “Trade Counter” to ensure timely deliveries in the local area whilst coordinating and planning deliveries further afield
Compliance: Ensure adherence to access restrictions, such as clean air zones and the London Direct Vision Standard.
Issue Resolution: Resolve delivery-related issues, working with drivers to overcome problems such as breakdowns, access restrictions, and customer-related issues.
Driver Management: Ensure all driver licenses, CPC, and medicals are current, including forklift and HIAB operations, and maintain records.
Driving Infringements: Discuss any driving infringements with drivers and obtain signatures to ensure understanding.
Relief Driving: Arrange for relief drivers as needed, optimize loads, and seek backload opportunities (e.g., collection of inbound products).
Transport Providers: Develop relationships with suitable transport providers, and utilse them when needed,
Sustainability: Seek opportunities to collect pallets for re-use.
Fuel Management: Monitor fuel prices and usage.
Logistics Coordination: Work closely with logistics colleagues to optimise delivery options.
Maintenance and Safety: Ensure all maintenance and safety checks are completed and records kept for all commercial vehicles, including servicing and MOTs (note: company car maintenance is the driver’s responsibility).
Reporting: Produce KPI reports for associated departments.
Staff Management: Conduct regular staff meetings, annual appraisals, and reviews with drivers,

Provide cover for the Dispatch Supervisor during absences and holidays.
Answer calls related to transport.
Maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
Other general office duties relevant to the job.
