Ghasem Golshan Arani
I came to the University of Delaware in Sep 2022 with over a decade of diverse experience in the realm of international trade and commerce. Since 2009, I have been immersed in the world of commodities trading, working as a commercial executive, International Marketing Specialist and later as an entrepreneur. These years have been invaluable in shaping me into a well-rounded individual with a deep understanding of trading in a wide range of commodities, particularly within the context of Iran import and export.
My journey in the field of commodities trading has led me to develop expertise in Metals exporting various steel products from Iran to markets in the Middle East and Far East. From semi-finished products like Steel Billet and Steel Slab to finished long products such as Debars, Ribbed Bars, and Wire Rod, I’ve been involved in every step of the trading process. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of sourcing and exporting diverse commodities like DRI, Pellets, Pig Iron, Sulphur, clinker, gypsum, and chrome ore.
In parallel to my physical trading endeavors, I’ve co-founded and hold a stake in a private trading company in Iran and UAE. This venture focuses on importing grains for both animal and human consumption, encompassing products like Barley, Corn, Soy Beans, Wheat, Chickpeas, and Lentils. This entrepreneurial journey has taught me the nuances of global trade, supply chain management, and the intricacies of dealing with international partners including Russian and American suppliers.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to engage in countless negotiations, navigate intricate customs regulations, manage international banking transactions, and chart bulk vessels for shipments across the globe. These experiences have not only enriched my business acumen but have also granted me the opportunity to travel extensively and build a network of contacts spanning across multiple countries.
Recognizing the multifaceted nature of international business, I started an MS international business last fall and switched to an MBA program with Business Analytics. This academic pursuit deepened my understanding of finance, marketing, Economics, Managing business on a global scale in either terrestrial or digital realm. However, my thirst for knowledge remains unquenched, and that’s what brings me to this course as an international student, eager to delve deeper into the intricacies of global business dynamics as well as the role of data science and mining business analytics to global commodity insights and tracking market trends.
I am also a graduate of English Language Translation and General Linguistics from Iran, an achievement that led me to a Fulbright Scholarship from the International Institute of Education (IIE). This honor allowed me to teach Persian as a less commonly taught language in the United States for an academic year, an experience that broadened my horizons and cultural understanding.
I am thrilled to apply to commodity trader positions and I’m excited about the prospect of learning alongside such a talented and diverse group of individuals and being my hands-on experiences from Middle East. I believe that the fusion of my varied backgrounds and perspectives will enrich our discussions and contribute to a vibrant learning environment.
Please feel free to reach out or if you’d like to connect. I look forward to getting to know each of you better and working together to make the most of this academic experience
